ALTO prepaid debit card

The ALTO card is a prepaid MasterCard designed specially for members of Credit Unions. You can use it like any other debit or credit card, except that you can only spend up to the amount you have put on the card. Money can be transferred to the ALTO card from any Essex Savers account, either regularly or on request.

The ALTO card can be used to pay for goods or services online, over the telephone or in person. It can also be used to draw money from cash machines (subject to a £1 transaction charge in the UK and a £1.50 charge overseas). You can regard it as a safe alternative to cash; if your card is lost or stolen it can be stopped.

By arranging for money to be transferred to your ALTO card from your Essex Savers budget account, you can effectively use the two together as a chequeless current account.

The ALTO card is issued by the Unity Trust Bank. If you are a member of Essex Savers you can apply for an ALTO card through us; just contact our Head Office or your usual Service Point. There is a £3 monthly charge for regular users.
